Dr. Kanakry received his Veterinary degree from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 1993, and began working with VCA Lewis that same year. He also has a BS in biology from the College of William and Mary, and has worked as a biologist for the Food and Drug Administration before receiving his veterinary degree. Dr. Kanakry has two pets at home: His dog, Elvis, and his cat, Dino.
Dr. Krug graduated with her degree from University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 1998. She also went to Bryn Mawr College and received a BA in biology and has a special interest in soft tissue surgery and feline medicine. In her free time, she enjoys following local sports teams such as the Orioles and Redskins, and loves computer gaming (especially World of Warcraft). She has two cats, Rivan and Arrietty, who are the best of friends, and are often caught on camera snuggling on top of each other. "Though many see the veterinary field as a career that only helps pets, I became a veterinarian to help people. I also get to work with animals and solve problems - what could be better?".
Dr. Myers joined VCA Lewis in 2001, and has been a wonderful part of our team ever since! She attended University of Georgia's College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated with her degree in 1999. She also has a BA in biology from the University of Virginia. Dr. Myers has completed research on infectious diseases and feral cat colonies, and has a special interest in geriatric and internal medicine. She has four pets of her own at home: her two dogs, Brie and Mei Mei; and her cats, Nufie and Binty. In her spare time, Dr. Myers enjoys traveling, eating gourmet food, strolling through antique shops, and has a great passion for animal rights. "Some people are defined by their jobs and some aren't. I don't think of veterinary medicine as my job; it's just part of me. I can't turn it off. As long as I can remember, I've had a visceral attachment to animals. I need them, and they need me. And I've known no greater joy than preventing and treating illness in dogs and cats. I'm grateful every day that I get to do this!".
Dr. Hebner received his degree in 1994 from Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine. He joined the team of VCA Lewis in 2003 and is now our Medical Director. He has extensive experience in emergency medicine and surgery, and also has a special interest in physical therapy. Dr. Hebner has two pets at home: A lab mix named Blue and a domestic short hair named Sylvester. In his spare time, he enjoys coaching, cooking, tri-sports, and spending time with his family.
Dr. Watts received her veterinary degree from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 2005 and joined the team of VCA Lewis that same year. She also has a BS in Animal Bioscience from Pennsylvania State University and has a special interest in internal medicine. Dr. Watts has two dogs at home: an American Staffordshire Terrier named Raven, and a Pit Bull named Orion. In her spare time, she enjoys sports, reading, and spending time with her kids (2-legged & 4-legged). "I am a vet to be of service to animals and the people who care for them. My job is to make the lives of animals, and therefore their people, better.".
Dr. Smith received her degree from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine in 2002. She has a MS and BS in Animal Science from the University of Maryland, College Park. She also works as a Veterinary Medical Officer for the Food and Drug Administration.
Education:
Dr. Evans completed her veterinary education at Michigan State University, receiving a doctorate in veterinary medicine. She also completed her undergraduate education at Michigan State University where she obtained a Bachelors of Science degree in Zoology. Originally from Detroit, Michigan, Dr. Evans moved east following graduation from veterinary school. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and has special interests in internal medicine and dermatology. Dr. Evans has two beagle/corgi mixes- Harpo and Marla, that she enjoys spending time with. She also enjoys crafts, sewing and learning to knit in her spare time. "What I find most rewarding about being a veterinarian is the ability to make a positive impact on pet's lives. Having pets of my own, I know that they are important members of our family. It is a privilege to be tasked with keeping them healthy and improving the quality of their lives.".
